GAIA Project – an international project between Israel and the Czech Republic

Botičská Grammar School participates in an international project called Global Awareness Investigation and Action (GAIA) funded by the American International School in Israel (Walworth Barbour AIS). The GAIA project aims to prove the hypothesis that live animals can reduce use of pesticides. Students and teachers participating in the project are researching and comparing the environmental impact of birds (chickadees and owls) on the population of insects and rodents in order to convince farmers to decrease use of sprays and pesticides.

Students from both countries cooperate and communicate via Skype conferences and email. Participating schools take turns in organising trips and study visits to Israel and the Czech Republic. In March 2013 the Czech schools went to Israel for a perfectly organised study visit to the most famous parts of the country – the Dead Sea, the Hula Bird Reservation, the Nagev Desert, Jerusalem and other places. You can see over 200 photographs in our photo gallery.

The entire project is supported by the Czech ambassador in Israel Bc. Tomáš Pojar.
